Lake Norman Day

We had a great day at our annual Lake Norman Day on Friday, August 20 with a group of 50 men and youth.

Here are some stats from our annual Lake Norman Day…

  • 7 car loads of youth
  • 1 beautiful guest home and dock
  • 3 boats with pull behind tubes
  • 3 jet skis
  • 4 canoes
  • 4 kayaks
  • 50 life-jackets
  • 100 hamburgers
  • 3 large macaroni and chesse dishes
  • 5 bags of chips
  • lots of cookies
  • lots of soft drinks, Kool Aid, and water
  • 2 chocolate cakes

We had youth and men from Youth Mentoring in the community, Shannon Hills Bible Chapel, Calvary Baptist Church, Salem Baptist Church, GreenTree Church, First Alliance Church, Salem Chapel, and Ardmore Baptist Church.  We were also blessed to have 2 of our men provide transportation for 7 youth from the Open Arms Refugee from Burma / Karenis with Tim Cross, a local NAMB missionary, who participated in this fun day.

Two senior ladies called me at the end of the day to tell me that they had met earlier in the day to pray for God’s favor and blessings on this day…”we prayed for safety…to, on, and from the lake and for God to work in all hearts.”

The purpose of this annual day long trip is to worship Jesus Christ…be a culmination event for the summer activities as all return to school…to have fun and laugh with these challenged youth…to show men and young men we can have adventure and excitement in a Godly environment…to have men that are good role models and mentors for the challenged youth in our community and churches.

One sponsor called afterward to say…”thanks for a Wonderful Wonderful day, it was a very rewarding day for all the youth and for me personally. a very powerful and inspiring day, at a beautiful place, this was a loving and accepting day that these youth and all the men needed, thank you for including me and all the youth.”

Devotions on the Dock

Our Day

We started the day early with meeting the youth at 6:50 am with an opening prayer and instructions before we left Clemmons and drove to Lake Norman. Our purpose is to be gospel centered in all things so we gathered all at the boat dock and gave more instructions and shared from God’s word, “How to ask for help” from John 3:16 and from the Sermon on the Mount…we called this the “Sermon on the Dock.”

We all then went out with all the watercraft on the lake and had a great day. Everyone returned for a big lunch and listened to missionary Tim Cross share how God called him to missions as a youth and then to the ministry of working with refugees in our area and training others. We also had the opportunity for one of our own young men that we have seen grow and develop, JT Swan, share his testimony and how God is working in his life (recent graduate from Word of Life Bible Institute and now attending Piedmont Baptist College). What a blessing to hear of the faithfulness of God through mentoring and discipleship.

We all made it home by 7:00pm safely…what an impactful and God blessed day.

Please pray

  • Pray for these youth as they are challenged to read a Proverb a day, to correspond with the day of the month
  • Pray for these youth as they plan to attend Prepare the Way, a weekend conference for men and young men October 15-16

Thank you to all who participated, sponsored, prayed and made this a great day…Praise God from whom all blessings flow.  If you are interested in coming with us next year, or you have a boat/jet ski we could use, or would like to drive, contribute food, or financially support this event, please contact me.

Thanks, David
